Power Demand for March Decreases in Italy

Italy’s low industrial consumption resulted in a 1.4pc fall of power demand in March compared to last year. The decrease was observed across the centre-south, centre-north, and north zones, with a slight increase noted in the south zone.

Overall industrial consumption decreased except in cement, lime and gypsum segments. The largest contributing factor was the 24pc decline in thermal and coal-fired output.

Renewable energy covered 41.8pc of overall demand; with hydropower generation trebling, and increased generation in solar and geothermal plants. However, wind generation declined during the month.

Imports covered 20.4pc of domestic power consumption; marking a 23pc increase on the year, while exports remained steady.
