2023’s High Carbon Market Value

Carbon dioxide global market permits reached their highest last year, totalling 881 billion euros, representing a 2% increase from 2022. Although this increase in EU ETS accounted for 87% of global market, the amount of global permits remained similar to that in 2022, standing at 12.5 billion metric tons.

UK ETS prices were 34% lower than the previous year, while North America and China hit high records in the same period. The year began with a high price, exceeding one hundred euros, which gradually declined by the end of the year and eventually dropping below 60 euros in 2024.
